This morning, the Sailor returned from two weeks in Pennsylvania for annual training. I had some time to kill before his train got in at Union Station, so I took some photos. Felt a little nostalgic since I used to work across the street from Union Station. I miss working in downtown Chicago and being a part of the daily hustle and bustle. Although it was interesting to see my old stomping grounds in the exact opposite way - quiet, empty, and closed.
Diving into the city was pretty
The Chicago River, looking north from the Adams Street bridge
Sears Tower (I guess it's now the Willis Tower, but ... whatever)
I think this view is looking east on Monroe, at Wacker
The Civic Opera House, home of the Lyric Opera of Chicago
My Sailor ... I can't resist any opportunity to get a photo of him in uniform.
And to do a complete 180 ... back in the suburbs, my birthday dinner this evening was at White Fence Farm Restaurant. The food was great and the inside of the restaurant looks frozen in time: the menu, the decor, the uniforms ... but not in a forced, kitschy way. Like someone hit pause on what the place looked like in 1981 or something.
