For years the extent of my "running" was chasing after soccer balls. One of my best friends [
BFF Ultra Vera ] is an ultramarathoner - and always tried to encourage me to run. In January 2010, she convinced me to sign up for a half marathon. I was feeling very New Years Resolution-y at the time.
I didn't do a very good job sticking to a training plan, but I got through that half marathon in 2:48 (impressive, no?) and enjoyed the high of being done, and a feeling of shock and accomplishment that I actually did it. It wasn't long before I thought about my next race. I haven't stopped thinking about my next race, and thus had caught the running bug.
Since then I've run lots of 5K's, a couple more half marathons, and distances in between. I plan to run my first marathon - Chicago - on 10/7/12 with the American Cancer Society's DetermiNation team.
